A handy point-to-point walk linking two North Yorkshire Retreats properties. Start from Moor End Road at The Grainary and walk towards The Falcon, finishing near the A171. The mapped route gains around 96 m, so it makes a lovely way to combine a countryside walk with a visit to The Falcon.

A superb nearby circular: follow the dramatic Cleveland Way to Hayburn Wyke, where woodland meets a rocky cove and waterfall, then return on the gentler Cinder Track. Start at Cloughton Station area.

This short National Trust circular offers views across Robin Hood’s Bay, wildlife and local history, with optional extensions around the old Peak Alum Works and former brickworks. Mostly even earth and grass paths with gentle slopes; they can be muddy after wet weather.
View National Trust routeThe classic east–west crossing of the North York Moors, traditionally walked between Osmotherley and Ravenscar. The route passes the Falcon Inn area on the A171, making the inn especially relevant to walkers tackling the eastern section or the full challenge. This is a serious undertaking: plan navigation, transport, daylight, food, water and weather carefully.
Wrea Head lies in countryside on the edge of Scalby, around two miles inland from the coast, making it easy to mix village lanes, the Cinder Track and the Cleveland Way.
A simple local walk into attractive Scalby for a café, pub or village wander. Wrea Head’s own guest information describes the village as roughly a 20-minute walk away.

Cinder Track overviewExplore the Cinder TrackHead from Scalby towards Hayburn Wyke along the Cinder Track. At Hayburn Wyke you have a choice: head back down the Cinder Track for a shorter, easier walk, or, for a longer, more difficult and more scenic walk, return along the Cleveland Way with its superb coastal views. The full mapped circular is 19.52 km with around 290 m of ascent.

With more than 8,500 acres to explore, Dalby is one of the best places nearby for a dedicated walking day. Choose from short accessible strolls, family-friendly routes and longer forest walks, all with colour-coded waymarking. The 5.7 km Dalby Beck Trail is a good moderate option, while the Ellerburn Trail offers an easier alternative.
Explore Dalby walksCombine classic North York Moors scenery with Goathland village and the 70-foot Mallyan Spout waterfall. There are several circular walks around the village, while the historic Rail Trail runs for around 3.5 miles via Beck Hole towards Grosmont.
Explore GoathlandRosedale is superb walking country, with open moorland, old railway trackbeds and fascinating remains from the area's ironstone-mining past. It is an excellent choice when you want a longer day out and a different side of the National Park.
Explore RosedaleExplore the cobbled lanes of Robin Hood's Bay before heading onto the Cleveland Way for spectacular clifftop walking. It is also the eastern finish of the Coast to Coast, making this an especially rewarding area for walkers.
